Alambic is a high-end tool for generating and dispensing PDF files in enterprise settings.
Alambic takes PostScript documents and delivers their PDF versions. It operates in two primary modes, HTTP or SMTP. In SMTP mode, the output PDF file goes directly to the requesting user. In HTTP mode, Alambic stores the PDF on its server and sends a URL to retrieve it later to the requesting user.
Alambic is user-friendly and requires just three steps to create PDF documents. First, select the document you want to convert to PDF. Then, print it to Alambic's specialized printer. Finally, receive the PDF file or link to it via email.
Alambic is free to use under the GNU General Public License. It comes as a binary or source for the Linux platform on Intel processors. Users can access it from any client, whether Windows, Mac or Unix, that can produce PostScript output and send data to a network printer.
To enjoy the full benefits of Alambic, you need Common UNIX Printing System 1.1. The latest release adds a #include to correct compilation bugs on SUSE x86 64bits and changes log into AlambicLog to prevent any conflicts with the logarithmic log function.
