Alternity Messenger is a Linux-based instant messaging software that supports multiple protocols.
One of the issues identified by many Linux and open source software users was that some platforms had excellent features but were not user-friendly, while others that were user-friendly often lacked features and were poorly written. The development of Alternity aimed to bridge this gap and offer a highly functional, user-friendly instant messaging program.
To utilize the program, the user will need the Qt library and headers (version 3.3 or better).
The latest release of Alternity, both for Mac OSX and Linux, has all the functionality of the previous year's release and some added features. The developers spent the past year re-writing the program, making it more stable and user-friendly for users. An upcoming release is already in the works, and it's estimated to be ready in less than a year.
Though some bugs and non-functional buttons are present, overall, Alternity is a good instant messaging program for Linux users. Screenshots of Alternity will be posted soon, but until then, users should give it a try.
