A.M.I.C.U.S. is a configuration installation script for MythTV on Debian that utilizes publicly available information.
A.M.I.C.U.S. maximizes the benefits of Debian Netinst CD, automatically installing only the required packages for MythTV, so it requires minimal but functional hardware. This means that users with low-end hardware can enjoy the excellent stability and quality of the Debian GNU/Linux operating system. Furthermore, Debian GNU/Linux remains a premier general-purpose operating system and not limited by running MythTV.
The A.M.I.C.U.S. project is completely independent of Debian, allowing users to benefit from the continuing Debian development. One of the significant advantages of using Debian GNU/Linux as an underlying operating system for a MythTV system is its ease of updating. Users can easily incorporate security fixes and system improvements by typing "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade" on the root prompt.
Although currently still in early development, the A.M.I.C.U.S. project has released version 0.01, and users can follow the instructions on the web page to install Debian Netinst, download, install, and configure MythTV with related packages. A.M.I.C.U.S. also includes limited MythTV-related hardware configurations, such as BT8x8, ivtv tuner cards, LIRC, and NVIDIA video cards, which users can easily set up.
In the latest release, various changes have been made to resync with the latest Debian Testing, making the A.M.I.C.U.S. project an even more reliable and robust tool for users. Overall, if you want a quick and hassle-free way to install and configure MythTV on your hardware, the A.M.I.C.U.S. project is an excellent option.
