This software library can be used to load, modify, and save archive files.
There are nine individual tools within the Arxtools collection: arxadd, arxarchive, arxdump, arxget, arxlist, arxmerge, arxmod, arxstructure, and arxtouch. Each tool offers specific functionality related to working with ARX archives.
The arxadd tool is designed for recursively adding files from a local file tree to an ARX archive. With arxadd, users can add multiple files to an archive simultaneously.
Arxarchive is another tool included in the collection, which allows users to retrieve or set an archive's root item ID. While useful, this tool may be removed in the future because its functionality is duplicated by arxget and arxstructure.
The arxdump utility tool enables users to view the contents of a particular item within an archive by identifying the unique ID associated with that item. However, this tool may eventually be removed because its functionality can be fulfilled by arxget, which is even more robust when resolving archive paths.
Arxget is a powerful tool that can extract a wealth of information from ARX archives. It is capable of resolving archive paths and identifying items by their unique ID.
Arxlist is an ls-like command for ARX archives. Although it currently cannot resolve paths, it does print out information about individual items within an archive. However, because its primary function is to extract information, it may be removed in the future since this functionality can also be achieved by arxget.
Arxmerge is a merging utility tool that enables users to merge two ARX archives based on a customizable sequence of rules. For more details on the merging process, users can refer to the reference documentation of the libarxx library.
The arxmod tool is designed to modify item meta information such as name, version, type, subtype, version, and unique ID. Additionally, arxmod can also modify individual item compression settings and remove items from the archive entirely.
Arxstructure, another tool in the collection, is designed to modify an item's structural information. Specifically, the tool can add or delete item references. However, this tool's functionality is closely related to that of arxmod, and it may be removed from the collection in the future.
Finally, arxtouch is a tool that creates empty archives and empty items in archives. It is handy for creating archives that need to be populated with files later on.
