Audacity-HPI is a variant of the well-known Audacity sound editor that operates on numerous operating systems.
To compile Audacity-HPI, you must first download wxWidgets. If you install the RPM, make sure to install the devel RPM too, or you won't be able to compile Audacity from source. After downloading wxWidgets, you can easily compile on Linux, Mac OS X, and other Unix systems with simple commands like "./configure, make, make install" (as root). If you want to do any development, you might want to generate a configure cache and header dependencies.
For Windows users, please follow the instructions found in compile.txt in the "win" subdirectory. Some known issues include not being able to play or edit MIDI files, and recording in full duplex on some Linux systems causing mono recordings to sound slowed down or low-pitched. In the latter case, record in stereo to work around this problem.
The latest release addresses many bugs and improvements, including fixing a bug that caused recording to stop or display incorrectly after about 50 minutes on some Windows systems, upgrading the Change Pitch and Change Tempo effects, upgrading libsndfile to version 1.0.11, fixing a bug that caused the program to run slowly when using the Envelope tool, and more. The VU Meters will now always reset when audio I/O stops. Additionally, new or updated translations are available for several languages.
Overall, Audacity-HPI is a powerful and free software that offers many useful features for editing sound on the GNU/Linux operating system.
