Axmjpeg software can extract JPEG images from an MJPEG source, which is transmitted over HTTP.
This software was originally written for 'cammgr', a web camera management software available from Axis. It allows cammgr to support a wide range of Axis network cameras. But, there are many other potential uses for axmjpeg as well.
The manual page provides a detailed list of functionality, but some of the highlights include saving JPEG images to the same file (optionally renamed), saving each JPEG image to a unique file, piping JPEG images to shell commands for additional processing, and time-based capturing where only one image per a specified interval will be selected for processing.
Axmjpeg was developed on FreeBSD but has been tested on a wide range of Unix systems, including several Linux variants, HP-UX, Tru64, and SunOS.
The latest release includes several new features. The image-fetching code has been extended to support the TRENDnet Internet Camera Server. The URL parser now accepts the "basic authorization" encoding. Additionally, a new option has been added to limit the number of image files created. Overall, Axmjpeg is a versatile tool that is well-suited for a variety of applications.
