Beam-back is a Python script that helps in saving streaming MP3 data in a simple manner.
To stop downloading and save a stream to a file, users can hit ctrl-c. By default, beam-back saves the stream to a file named "unfinished-stream.mp3," which can be modified by using the -u option. In instances where the stream drops out or loses a link unexpectedly, users can try the -p option to stabilize the connection.
Many Internet radio sites use the .pls file format, but the servers do not treat the MIME type correctly. To save these streams, users can follow these steps: 1) save the .pls file locally, and 2) execute from a Linux prompt ./beam-back.py -v pls_filename.
Alternatively, users can set up both of the two MIME types, audio/x-scpls and application/octet-stream with a suffix pls, to "xterm -e beam-back.py -v %s." Finally, users can set up cron jobs and stop and save a beam-back transfer by doing a kill -INT to the job. Overall, beam-back is an exceptional software tool that users can use to save streaming MP3 data, especially when the data stream is problematic.
