Bufonidae is a Java-based database query tool that is modeled after TOAD, designed to provide a user-friendly interface for executing database queries.
As per the developer's comments, the program was originally created as an alternative to TOAD, which was only compatible with Oracle at the time. The developer focused on incorporating the basic features of TOAD that they liked into their own version of the tool. The project has been in development for almost 10 years, but only the required features have been added so far, without any strategy or specification.
Despite this, Bufonidae works exceptionally well and has been extensively used by the developer themselves. Therefore, they felt that other people could benefit from it as well.
To use Bufonidae, you will need to have the JDBC drivers for the database in the classpath. The run.sh file can be modified to specify the JDBC driver's path. Alternatively, you can directly run the jar file using "java -jar Bufonidae.jar," although there isn't yet a way to specify the JDBC driver's classpath using this method.
If your particular database isn't listed in the connection dialog, you can easily edit the config.xml file with some basic knowledge of Java, JDBC, and XML to add your database.
The developer warns that since they had no plan for implementing features, there might be features that don't work as expected or don't work at all.
The latest release of the tool includes the Connect dialog, which now shows a server example when a driver is selected. The preferences save bug has been fixed, and driver preferences have been added. Overall, Bufonidae is a great tool for database management, despite some minor concerns.
