Burning Thunder Pup is a Puppy Dingo software package that provides desktop icons for Firefox and Thunderbird, along with Wine compatibility in the terminal.
This software is designed to fit on 185M pocket CD-Rs and offers a unique operating system called Puppy Linux. As an evolutionary operating system, Puppy Linux is based on GNU Linux and is extraordinarily small yet full-featured. It can boot into a 64MB ramdisk, which means that the entire system runs in RAM. Unlike live CD distributions that have to continually pull data from the CD, Puppy in its entirety is able to load into RAM. This drastically reduces application start-up times and enables instant response to user input.
Puppy Linux also offers the ability to boot from various storage devices including flash cards, USB memory devices, CDROMs, Zip disks, LS/120/240 Superdisks, floppy disks, and internal hard drives. Puppy typically occupies 50-60M on USB Flash drives or CDROMs, but more RAM enables faster file processing speeds. It is recommended to have a PC with at least 128M RAM to run Puppy Linux.
Puppy also offers an automatic swap partition feature when booting from a USB Flash device. If there is not enough RAM, Puppy can copy the excess data to a swap partition to prevent writes to the Flash memory during a session, greatly extending its lifespan. For PCs with less than 64M RAM, a swap partition may be necessary to run Firefox or Mozilla. For a PC with only 32M RAM, a swap partition is necessary to run most large GUI applications.
