ByzantineOS is an Internet Appliance software designed mainly for home entertainment usage purposes.
One of the significant advantages of ByzantineOS is that it eliminates the need for hard disks, floppy drives, and other hardware. All that you require is a diskless computer with key components like a CPU (preferably an Intel Pentium), a motherboard, NIC (Network Interface Card) or modem, CD-ROM (or DVD drive), RAM (a minimum of 128 MB for full graphics), and VESA 2.0 compliant graphic card.
To start using ByzantineOS, you simply need to boot from the CD (which is business card-sized). The first thing you will see is a basic menu with different types of booting options. You can choose from ByzantineOS (Generic) or ByzantineOS (Generic HiRes), with the former providing an 800x600 framebuffer and the latter a 1024x768 framebuffer.
Once you are inside ByzantineOS, you can start the X Windows system by typing "startx." Overall, ByzantineOS is an impressive option for those who need an internet appliance with a home entertainment bias.
