CDRDAO is specialized software designed for the Disk-At-Once Recording of Audio CD-Rs, allowing users to create flawless audio CDs with a high level of control over the process.
Older CD-recorder models forced a two-second pause (pre-gap) between two tracks, but newer models allow adjusting the pause length in TAO mode, reducing the number of link blocks to a minimal amount. However, with TAO, it is generally not possible to define the data that is written in pre-gaps. This is where audio CD recording becomes interesting, as it allows for the creation of hidden bonus tracks or track intros in pre-gaps, like it is common habit on commercial CDs. DAO recording is the only way to write data to the unused R-W sub-channels for CD-G, CD-TEXT, and other formats.
CDRDAO offers a range of features that provide full control over the length and contents of pre-gaps, making possible complete omission of pre-gaps, e.g. for dividing live recordings into tracks. The software also offers control over sub-channel data such as catalog number, copy, pre-emphasis, 2-/4-channel flags, ISRC code, and index marks. In addition, it supports exact audio, data, and mixed mode CD copying, R-W sub-channel writing, and tracks composed of different audio files supporting non-destructive cut.
The software program accepts WAVE and raw audio files, and offers CD-TEXT reading and writing with drives that support it, and access to CDDB to automatically create CD-TEXT data. On-the-fly copying is also supported.
In recent updates, device locking for win32 has been added, and the software has undergone a man page cleanup. GCDMaster has also fixed GCC 4.1 compilation issues and hang when inserting a WAV file.
Overall, CDRDAO offers a comprehensive range of features that make it an excellent choice for users who wish to record CD-Rs with full control and flexibility over the contents and structure of their discs.
