Cdred is a Linux driver and two programs that support audio CDROMs for any CD player software, such as xfreecd or gtcd. It enables easy access to inserted CDs.
Cdred is compatible with all 2.2.x kernels, and support for 2.4 will be available soon. Written in C, Cdred follows a client-server model to implement most of the CD-ROM ioctls. Communication is via RPC, and the implementation is easy to understand, thanks to a helpful diagram.
If you want to see a good example of Cdred in action, check out the picture that my seven-year-old sister drew. It features a disc belonging to Meteosat, one of my favorite bands with my brother, Ignacio, as one of its members. Overall, Cdred is a great tool that makes it easy to listen to CDs on any Linux device.
