Checker is software that monitors and verifies the status of services and servers.
If a host goes down, Checker scans the file "check.down" to find the host responsible. If it cannot locate the host, then it adds it to the file and sends an e-mail to the person who is configured in the file "check.conf".
If hosts or services listed in the file "check.hosts" go down, Checker will search for the lost services or hosts in the "check.down" file. If it locates them, then an e-mail is sent to notify the user that the services or hosts are back up. If it cannot find them, then it will not take action.
The Checker program comes with several files that will aid its functionality:
- Check: Program for checking services (TCP) or hosts (ICMP) getting them from file check.hosts
- Check.conf: Configuration file for program checker
- Check.hosts: File with hosts to check
- Check.down: File with hosts who were downed
Additionally, the latest update has fixed the bug that caused messages to be sent without new lines in the "Subject" field, making this an even more reliable and effective program. Overall, Checker has been an exceptional tool for me, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a reliable solution for monitoring services and hosts.
