Cibyl is a tool that enables C programs to run on J2ME-enabled mobile devices through a programming environment.
Cibyl offers the ability to port games written in C to J2ME without changing language. Though it is closely tied to GCC and binutils, it can potentially work on other systems besides Linux.
There are two key reasons why Cibyl may be a tool of interest. First, C is generally considered a better language for creating games than Java. Additionally, if you have existing games written in C, using Cibyl allows for porting the game to J2ME without a total rewrite of the application. The goal is simply to port the game to another API without having to learn another programming language.
Initially known as Nophun, a play on words from the term Mophun, the software's new name is now Cibyl, chosen for its fun factor. While it is an abbreviation of something, the only constant so far is the "C", focusing on C's role in the program.
