Coindesigner is a powerful RAD system that enables the development of 3D applications using the versatile Coin3D openInventor library. With easy-to-use tools and a streamlined workflow, developers can quickly create immersive, highly interactive visualizations for a variety of industries and use cases.
Coindesigner is similar to other systems like glade or qt-designer, allowing users to choose components from the openInventor toolkit and easily add them to their scene. All changes are applied to the scene dynamically, making it easy to visualize and adjust the application in real-time.
Some key features of Coindesigner include native openInventor file format support for reading and writing scenes, importing geometry from multiple file formats such as VRML, 3ds, and DXF, and exporting geometry to file formats like VRML2, SMF, and STL.
In addition to basic geometrical operations like mesh reduction and convex hull computation, Coindesigner also allows users to visualize volumetric data, such as medical CT scans, if they have access to SIM Voleon. Other functionalities include the CDSView viewer for viewing and distributing scenes without Coindesigner and tools for defining colors, file paths, and menus.
The GUI is available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and the application contains the complete coin reference and several tutorials that are directly browsable. Coindesigner is multiplatform and works under Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows, and is open source released under GPL license.
Coindesigner requires the Coin3D libraries and Qt SDK. The 1.3 Stable Release brings some new viewer window classes, information on the current node in status bar, and support for point picking and indexed face set features. The 2 Beta 1 Development Release has a new GUI based on docks, a source code editor with syntax highlighting, and support for connections and engines, among other enhancements. You can drag and drop files from the explorer to the coindesigner window for quick import.
