This software adds search commands to the CPAN shell, enabling easy searching of a WAIT4CPAN server. The functionality makes it simpler to find the required modules for development.
The SYNOPSIS for this module is as follows:
perl -MCPAN -e shell
> wq au=wall
> wr 3
> wd 3
> wl 20
> wh
> wh wq
CPAN::WAIT lets you perform searches on a WAIT server. It establishes a connection to the WAIT server using a protocol that closely resembles NNTP as described in RFC977. It works hand-in-hand with the WAIT::Client module which in turn inherits from Net::NNTP from the libnet package. It is essential to have Net::NNTP installed to use this module.
In case a direct connection to the WAIT server is impossible, CPAN::WAIT attempts to establish a connection via the user's HTTP proxy (as specified by their CPAN configuration). That being said, be aware that the emulation of the stateful protocol via HTTP is very slow.
The variable CPAN::WAIT::TIMEOUT specifies the number of seconds to wait for a response from the server. The default is 20, but if you have a slow connection, it might be better to set it to a larger value.
Overall, CPAN::WAIT is a great module for adding advanced commands to the CPAN shell(). It's worth a try in my opinion!
