Crossfire+ server, situated in Southern Germany, boasts of an incredibly speedy connection, providing an ideal platform for uninterrupted software operations.
Key features of the game include: death not being permanent, stats depletion on death is minimal, friendly fire causes no damage, and pet monsters and summoned creatures will not obstruct other party members. The item power setting is at "2" and crossfire maps can be viewed interactively at cfmaps.schmorp.de. Additionally, character files from other Crossfire servers can be imported, and player-killing is not tolerated.
If you want to try out a map on a public server, send it in. Map and graphics artists are continuously improving graphics and developing new maps and quests. The server restarts automatically after a crash and emergency saves are disabled. The admins can be reached through IRC and e-mail, and variable data is backed up nightly to two different locations.
To connect to the server, use the command cfclient -server crossfire.schmorp.de, or any other Crossfire client. If you use Debian GNU/Linux, you can find the clients in the crossfire-server-x11 and crossfire-server-gtk packages.
Updates to the game include a rewrite of large parts of the server for improved performance, asynchronous map loading and saving, a new parser for file formats, and a completely pluggable map system. With over 40 Perl extensions available, including an IRC gateway and playershop, "Crossfire Plus" offers a persistent database for convenient data storage.
