CURSEL is a free FMLI software project.
The language used by CURSEL is similar to the AT&T FMLI shell. However, it is not the same as a /bin/sh shell, and there are a few differences to keep in mind. For instance, backquoted expressions are not evaluated by a shell like BASH but instead by the built-in CURSEL "shell". Note that the CURSEL "shell" does not provide all the features of BASH.
CURSEL also offers a couple of extensions that are not present in the AT&T FMLI shell. Firstly, text frames can use an "alignment" descriptor, which allows you to left or right align text in a Text frame. Besides, centering and justification is also supported. Secondly, backquoted expressions can use () grouping of parentheses, just like in the UNIX shell.
To summarize, CURSEL is a reliable, free software that makes creating form- or menu-based character interfaces for shell scripts and other programs incredibly easy. The software supports a language similar to the AT&T FMLI shell. Also, it provides a few extensions, such as the alignment descriptor and () grouping, to make the interface creation process more flexible.
