DBLog is a logging software designed for radio enthusiasts, working on a database-driven platform.
The installation process is simple, and the data base is easily tested. The development has been done using PostgreSQL, but MySQL and SQLite are also supported by Gambas. It only requires the user to follow standard SQL commands carefully to ensure everything is set up correctly. Create the users, authorisations, and the database tables for the "LOG", or alternatively with any other name desired. Also, ensure that cwdaemon starts correctly without any errors, and eventually modify /etc/defaults/cwdaemon according to specific requirements.
Once the installation is complete, the software can be run using Gambas. Simply load DBLog and connect it to the database with the correct user name and password to enjoy all of its features. DBLog has two modes - RUN mode and S&P mode - and updating time_on during a QSO is automatic. However, it is worth noting that in S&P mode, the user must click on "Start QSO" to initiate time tracking; otherwise, the logging time will be logged upon completion of the QSO.
The SQL Request window allows users to input any SQL command, which can be used to modify database records, search for specific information, or delete any data. Users should have the SQL manual handy when using this feature. Additionally, the ADIF export function makes exporting and remembering specific QSOs easy.
One possible problem that users may encounter is if the DataStyle subroutine requires modification to match their date style. Please note that the CAT interface is tailored for an IC-706 MKIIG. For other radios, users can modify the commands and serial parameters to suit their requirements.
The latest release of DBLog focuses on developers of other HAM radio applications, such as programs for digimodes, EME, or Meteorscatter. It also now works seamlessly as a 'Log server', allowing another program to send commands via TCP on port 3164 to fill fields and log QSOs. Finally, DBLog replies with 'Name' and 'QTH' if the call has been worked before, further emphasizing how user-friendly and efficient this software is.
