Dents is a unique implementation of the DNS protocol's server side with no code shared with any other project, developed from scratch.
To ensure seamless functionality, users are required to install glib from the GNOME project, which can be easily downloaded from ftp.gtk.org/pub/gtk. It is essential to note that the glib version installed must contain support for POSIX-threads for optimal thread-safety. Fortunately, the "./configure" feature automatically disables threads in cases where glib is not Pthread enabled.
For the control facility to work smoothly, users must also install ORBit (also from the GNOME project) and support for POSIX-threads. Currently, some developers are using glib-1.2.4 and ORBit-0.4.3, although earlier versions are also compatible.
Recent releases have seen some notable enhancements that have further boosted Dents' performance. These enhancements include the addition of fake values to the clients/gdents-admin/mockup.pl function for easy sorting viewing. The program has also developed improved display systems for SOA records, including comma delineation. Additionally, clients/gdents-admin/ctlfac.glade has been updated with a menubar, status bars, and progress bars, while the old zone_info window and clist have been put in a notebook and scrolled window, respectively. Sort routines have been added for columns, improving sorting processes.
Dents' impressive features and continuous improvements make this software an excellent choice for DNS protocol implementation, with many satisfied users worldwide.
