DistccPPCKnoppix is a Knoppix distro that comes with distcc servers to support the compilation of Linux x86 and OSX ppc.
After coming across guides like "Building a Darwin cross-compiler for use with distcc and fink" and "HOWTO: Use Gentoo Distcc Host to cross-compile for OSX," I quickly built my own cross-compiler to use with Apple OSX development. As with most people, I have more x86 hardware than ppc; thus, using distccPPCKnoppix proved to be a useful alternative for Linux x86 compilation.
Adding the ppc cross-compiler to distccKnoppix was straightforward, thanks to the Knoppix Remastering Howto. Upon booting, two distccd demons begin on separate ports: port 3632 for the x86 compiler and port 3633 for the ppc compiler. This process has made a significant difference in improving OSX compiling and development at a lower cost.
For all Apple developers, this software provides an excellent opportunity to utilize your x86 hardware efficiently. Thanks to its amazing features, distccPPCKnoppix is a must-have addition to your compilation process.
