DVBStreamer is a Linux software capable of streaming off-air DVB transport stream over UDP. It is designed to simplify the streaming process with a user-friendly interface.
The receiver may be a display application, such as mplayer/xine/video lan client, or a recording application designed to store the received packets to a file. Moreover, DVBStreamer aims to be unique and distinguish itself from similar applications through several features.
Primarily, it streams the entire service, including the PCR PID, which some other applications tend to overlook, assuming that it is embedded in the video or audio packets. Secondly, the application solely utilizes the channels.conf file produced by the linuxtv.org scan application to initialize the list of services and multiplexes. The PID values, generally employed by other applications, are not supported. Instead, DVBStreamer monitors the Service Information (SI) in the transport stream and updates it during PAT and PMT table updates.
Eventually, the application only retunes to a multiplex if the new service comes from a different multiplex, which greatly enhances the speed of channel switching.
