EasyH10 is a free, open-source project focused on creating a software suite for iRiver H10 digital audio devices. The project is aimed at providing users with an easy-to-use and feature-rich platform for managing their music and media on their players.
EasyH10 is compatible with iRiver H10 5GB, 6GB, and 20GB models shipped worldwide, as well as various platforms including Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP, Linux, MacOS X, and other POSIX-like operating systems. It is intended for users who already possess a bit of knowledge about digital audio players and prefer doing things the better way rather than using "newbie" software.
One of the major benefits of EasyH10 is that it doesn't incorporate unnecessary and cumbersome features, such as converting music CDs into music files, editing media information, transferring music or playlist files from a local HDD to the iRiver H10 player, or creating playlists from scratch on demand. Instead, it assumes that users can prepare their own music files with tag information, transfer music files to the iRiver H10 player without synchronization software, and create playlist files through existing software.
EasyH10 only handles two remaining tasks: media database construction, which displays song information in MUSIC mode, and playlist conversion, which ensures that the playlist files are compatible (recognizable) with the H10 player.
One of the new features in this release is Hebrew support, which arranges artist/album/title/genre names in reversed order. Although the firmware of the H10 player may not display a right-to-left language string correctly, EasyH10 attempts to improve this situation by flipping Hebrew letters in the database. EasyH10 [Win32 GUI] automatically activates this routine when running on the Hebrew locale, but users can disable it by setting LanguageRightToLeft variable to -1 in easyh10.ini. EasyH10 [CUI] employs the routine only when option -b (--bidi) is specified. The flipping routine was written by David Kohen.
Other improvements include automatic detection of a system character-encoding in POSIX CUI, removal of options -n, -i, and -c for database construction to simplify EasyH10 [CUI] operations while retaining two options for database rebuild and database update, and bug fixes for crashes related to MP3 files without read permission, compilation flags enabled but empty artist names, and an incorrect usage of returned codes from iconv.
Overall, EasyH10 is a useful software suite for iRiver H10 users who want a simpler, customizable and open source solution for managing their music and playlists.
