Easys GNU/Linux 2.1 is a Slackware-based operating system with a KDE Light interface. It has been renamed and offers a user-friendly experience.
The main goal of easys GNU/Linux is to build a Linux version that users can count on for their daily work. In our 10 years of computer business experience, we've noticed that most users only need a few applications like a text editor, a spreadsheet, a browser, or an email client. Current Desktop Environments like KDE offer a lot more, but who needs three different text editors? That's why we've slimmed it down.
At easys GNU/Linux, we strive to make things easier for "normal" users. We do not offer any administration frontends for deep system tweaks as we think it's best to leave those things to experienced users. Instead, we provide on-board administration tools that come with the Slackware core. We only offer one application per task, so there is only one visible text editor for the end-user. Additionally, our kde-light environment is based on a complete KDE version, so most of the KDE applications are onboard too, but they're not visible by default.
Aside from applications, the installer is also a vital aspect of any Linux distribution. Our team took a look at other installers and noticed the "shell script" based Slackware installer, but we didn't like that it wasn't i18n-able. So, we spent some time customizing the installer to be able to write back a complete tar archive on nearly any hard drive. We added i18n support (in English and German right now. We're still looking for translators) and modified the kernel installation to make it simpler.
Overall, easys GNU/Linux is a great distribution for users who are seeking a simple, fast, and easy-to-use Linux solution. Though it might not come with as many options as other distributions, it provides everything you need to get the job done.
