Eddiebrowser is a CGI tool that offers a visual representation of system statistics through RRDtool.
One of the notable features of eddiebrowser is its dynamic interface which enables the browsing of RRD graphs for system performance statistics. Hostnames are automatically detected and presented, and it is easy to cycle through them. Users can view data for different time periods, with the default options being hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly.
eddiebrowser is an integral part of the EDDIE Tool monitoring project. It has some minimal requirements which include Python 2+, RRDtool, and the py-rrdtool. A web server is also necessary since eddiebrowser is a CGI program. Optional components such as ElvinRRD and other data collector/RRD software can be added to the system as needed.
To install eddiebrowser, there is a specific directory structure that users must follow to ensure that their data is picked up automatically. The first step involves creating a directory to store all the data, say /export/rrd, and then creating subdirectories for each of the data types. The data collector/RRD writer package that one uses may do this step automatically. After creating the subdirectories, it is then possible to write the RRD files for each data type to the respective directory. Hostname details can be included in the file names to facilitate easy identification of the RRD files for specific hosts.
