Evolusync allows the synchronization of the Evolution address book with a mobile device through IR or Bluetooth, making it easier to manage contacts on-the-go.
Let's talk about Evolusync's main purpose, which is to synchronize your Evolution addressbook with your IR or BlueTooth mobile device. However, it can also help you retrieve or update your mobile device phone book from sources other than Evolution. Currently, the software is at version 1.1 and runs on Evolution 1.4. It is mainly made of two parts: a set of functions to read and update Evolution's addressbook and a set of functions to read and update the phone book of mobile IR and BlueTooth devices.
The second set currently supports the OBEX over IR and BlueTooth and GSM AT over IRComm protocols. If possible, it is recommended to use OBEX as it provides richer phone book data support. You can check your device documentation or try irdadump with IR to discover what your device can do. Be safe and always try to backup your mobile phone data first.
NOKIAOBEXIR or NOKIAOBEXBT may not be appropriate for you, but if everything works fine, your mobile address book should be available in VCard format in /tmp/DevicePhoneBook.vcf. The requirements for this software include evolution-devel 1.4, openobex, and bluetooth if you want to use Bluetooth. Installation is achieved by running ./configure, make all, and install. You will get two binaries: evolusync and gsmat, which will be installed in /usr/local/bin.
When using Evolusync, always make sure your Bluetooth or Infrared stack works on your computer first. For evolusync, run evolusync --help. For gsmat, do the same thing. GSMAT allows you to send GSM AT commands to GSM mobile phones. When you have the choice, always use OBEX rather than GSM AT as a protocol. OBEX allows you to send full VCard data, such as multiple phone numbers, email addresses, and notes.
GSM Phones with Infrared should all be supported with -type GSMAT. NOKIA 40 series: all version 1 should be supported with -type NOKIAOBEXIR. Version 2 is being tested over Bluetooth with -type NOKIAOBEXBT. Unfortunately, NOKIA 60 series is not yet supported, but the team is working on it. Finally, the team is always interested in test results.
