FM P2P is a straightforward P2P software that generates a TCP-based overlay network for expedited messaging.
To use FM P2P, you must have a Java Environment. The latest stable release, 0.7.1, includes a major change to how nodes learn about other nodes. TCUP now carries layer 3 and 4 information related to that node's outbound connections, allowing other nodes to observe outbound connection announcements and act accordingly. In addition, distance is traced, enabling the TCUP node to build a link state database. All outbound connections are still driven by the FM layer's NodeManager module, which now comes with Ignore and Seed lists. Many bugs have also been fixed in this release.
If you're looking to try out the latest developments, the 0.8.0 Development Release includes some bugfixes and, most importantly, the implementation of basic SSL. When the "Use SSL" checkbox is selected in the configuration menu, anonymous SSL connections will be required for both inbound and outbound connections with an FM P2P node.
Overall, FM P2P is a reliable and easy-to-use program for peer-to-peer communication and file sharing. With the latest updates, it's only getting better.
