Freesweep is a minesweeper game built on curses software.
If you've been searching for a solution to the dearth of terminal games, then Freesweep is your best bet. As an avid player of minesweeper-styled games, I found it almost impossible to believe that there was no variant of the game for terminals when I was exposed to Unix. Thanks to Freesweep, that is no longer the case.
This software's key features include color on supported terminals, boards that can be exported as PPM images to show progress, and compatibility with boards of any size - even up to 1024x1024. Moreover, it supports saving and loading of game files as well as much better file formats with conversion from the previous format. The software's customizable alerts - beep, flash, or none are also commendable.
The latest version has been improved to include a fix for the Cygwin32 platform and changing strings.h to string.h, and adding maintainer-clean to Makefile.in. By using Freesweep, you can be sure of an excellent minesweeper experience like no other. It is licensed under the GNU GPL.
