FWdoc is a standard software solution that stores the configuration of firewall rulesets in a vendor-independent format for easier accessibility and maintenance.
With the FWdoc file, users can quickly produce a well-formatted and cross-referenced HTML summary of their firewall configuration. Moreover, FWdoc allows users to efficiently dump network and service objects, users, rules, and settings into separate files. They can opt to save these files as TXT or tab-separated tables, or even as templates in the form of TXT, CSV, SQL, etc.
The FWdoc software is divided into separate modules that work together seamlessly, connected with shell pipes. This allows users to effectively create HTML documentation of any firewall configuration, including CheckPoint configurations. It can be done by running a simple command line such as fw1r55_to_fwdoc.pl | fwdoc_used_objects.py | fwdoc_to_html.py, which will generate a well-formatted HTML file.
There are various input converters (*_to_FWdoc) available in the FWdoc software, including CheckPoint converters up to NG R55. Similarly, there is an array of output converters (FWdoc_to_*) such as HTML, TXT, table output (CSV, SQL, etc.) that users can conveniently choose from. There are also several filters (FWdoc_*) available in the software, including filtering of unused objects, ungrouping of objects and services, and unrolling of rulesets.
Overall, the FWdoc software is an efficient and reliable tool for creating and documenting firewall ruleset configurations, making it an excellent choice for cybersecurity enthusiasts, IT experts and businesses alike.
