"Gdvrecv" is a software package designed for FreeBSD that allows users to capture audio and video data from digital camcorders. It provides a set of useful tools for receiving and editing media content.
The suite is composed of firewire, a Python module that works with the FreeBSD firewire sub system, dvrecv, a command line tool and gdvrecv, which is the Gtk graphical tool.
Gdvrecv is a simple-to-use alternative to the command-line tool fwcontrol -R.
It is good to note that after recording with gdvrecv, you can use Kino, the FreeBSD port which can be found at multimedia/kino, for editing the DV files.
A significant point to remember is that gdvrecv is written exclusively for FreeBSD 5.3 or better. Unfortunately, other operating systems or FreeBSD versions are not supported. However, the developer encourages you to send patch for other operating systems.
