Glirnath is a web-based tool that allows users to browse and stream audio files from a Unix server which functions as a music box. It simplifies music streaming and playback by providing a user-friendly interface.
If you want to know more about the features of Glirnath, you can check out the screenshots provided to the left. The utility requires the use of a command-line audio player, and it's specially designed with players such as mpg321 in mind. Some other players have also been tested to be compatible with Glirnath, including ogg123 and mplayer, but mpg321 is recommended.
Before using Glirnath, it's necessary to obtain mpg321, which is available for free, as well as PHP allowing file uploads. If you want to add support for other file formats, all you need to do is install an appropriate command-line player and add a line into the options.php file for each one. For example, to add support for wma files, you can install mplayer and add the following line to options.php:
$CONFIG['players']['wma'] = '/usr/local/bin/mplayer';
If necessary, you can disable file uploads by simply not specifying an uploads directory in the options.php file. There are some configuration settings you should adjust if you want to upload audio files, such as php.ini and php.conf (if you have Apache.)
One of the biggest changes in the latest release of Glirnath is the replacement of [play] with a symbol (>) button, and [import] with a symbol (+) button. Additionally, there is a new Get Information button (?), and clicking on a song title no longer displays the song info. Clicking on the logo will return you to the index, and the Shuffle and Loop buttons are now represented by icons.
There are also some useful javascript features added in the update, including a feature that allows you to click on the cell of a song title and check it or uncheck everything else with javascript. There are also 'add_to_playlist' buttons on the playlist list that can submit the "Add To" form with javascript, as well as 'remove_from_playlist' buttons on the playlist. The new update also hides the 'add_to_playlist' buttons in the playlist list unless a checkbox is checked, and the playlist controls are automatically hidden using javascript if enabled. Finally, a version-checking feature has been added to the options.php file, and Glirnath will not run with an incorrectly versioned config file.
