gMUTOO is a service launcher, stopper, and monitor that can be found in the window manager tray. It has an elegant design and interface.
Gamin support is required unless --disable-monitor is used, in which case gMUTOO provides start/stop buttons for each entry on its menu. However, this means that file monitoring won't be available. gMUTOO has a few requirements: GTK >= 2.6, Glib >= 2.6, and Gamin >= 0.1.7.
Installing gMUTOO is straightforward. Simply use the commands "configure," "make," and "make install." Other configuration options are available, including the --prefix option to install it in a different location. Use --help to see all available configuration options. If you don't want Gamin support, use the --disable-monitor option. To receive useful debug messages, use the --enable-debug option.
When you first start using gMUTOO, its menu will be empty. Left-clicking its icon will open its main menu, while right-clicking it will open the configuration menu. You can add services and applications that you want to start, stop, and monitor in the configuration menu. For each entry, you should specify a name (mandatory), a brief description (optional), a command to start the service (optional but recommended), a command to stop the service (optional), a file to monitor to check if the service is running (optional), and an image file that will be displayed in the main menu (optional).
Remember to use absolute paths for all file names in cmdstart, cmdstop, monitoredfile, and iconfile fields. After specifying all of the necessary information, you can enable the new menu entry by clicking on the checkbox to the left of the service icon/name. Disabled entries won't be displayed in the menu, but they can still be kept in the list for future use. If you want to enable file monitoring for an entry, click on the checkbox to the right of the service icon/name. If file monitoring is not enabled, gMUTOO will display start/stop buttons in the menu for that entry so the user can manually decide if the service should be started or stopped.
Once you're satisfied with your service list, press OK to commit your changes. gMUTOO's main menu will now display all of your services nicely. Overall, gMUTOO is an excellent software that's easy to use and offers a great way to manage your services.
