GNUpaint is a GNOME-based paint program that is uncomplicated and streamlined, making it simple to use for all users.
Gpaint is actually a port of xpaint, but it takes advantage of features unique to the GNOME environment to offer a more modern user interface. The program is licensed under the GNU GPL, version 2 or later.
One of the key features of GNU Paint is its drawing tools. These tools include oval, freehand, polygon, and text; and you can fill in polygons or create closed freehand shapes.
Other features of GNU Paint include the ability to cut and paste by selecting irregular regions or polygons, print support using gnome-print (although it is noted that this feature can be flaky), and the ability to edit multiple images simultaneously without running multiple instances of the image editor.
Gpaint also offers all the image processing features present in xpaint. And, in this latest release, libglade is now a requirement, some UI adjustments were made in dialogs to fit GNOME conventions, the Gtk+ standard about box is used, and GtkPrint is used to do printing when the GTK+ version is 2.10 or later.
All in all, GNU Paint is a great choice for those who want to create simple images quickly and easily.
