Griv is software for a LAN chat application that operates without a server.
Once Griv is installed, you can configure it by editing the configuration file located at ~/.config/griv.conf. It's worth noting that the RivChat protocol uses cp1250 encoding, so you can send cp1250 encoded messages only to RivChat users and UTF-8 messages to Griv users.
If there's demand for it, the developers encourage users to provide a patch. Griv also offers command-line options, such as setting a nickname, username, and port number. For instance, a user can set their nickname to "Tomasz," their username to "desowin," and their port number to "16127" with the following command: griv -n Tomasz -u desowin -p 16127.
The latest version of Griv comes with several improvements, including bug fixes, the use of an ID in favor of nick, and the implementation of RC_REPOP, which sends running program time according to the RivChat protocol. Overall, Griv is easy to use, versatile, and a must-have for LAN chatting.
