Grml-Small is a Live-CD, that is a bootable CD, based on Knoppix and Debian.
While the larger version of Grml provides over 2.1GiB of software on a 700MB-ISO, Grml-small is a very compact rescue system for systems administrators. It does not require any installation on a hard disk or even the need for one to run the system. This is because of on-the-fly decompression which enables Grml-small to include around 150 MB of necessary software that still fits on a business card CD-ROM or USB device with 50MB.
The initial release of Grml-small offered a highly compact version of the Grml-system that was tailored for system administrators. However, note that there are some hacks implemented to minimize the ISO-size. Therefore, documentation and manpages are not included on the ISO.
Support for booting via USB is provided by Grml-small, which can be accessed through the website for more details. Additionally, the kernel runs on vanilla kernel 2.6.12 that features several patches (MPPC/MPPE, Reiser4, Squashfs,...) but not as many components compared to their larger version. Visit the website (see for more details) for further information about the features of Grml-small.
