GStreamer library enables the creation of media manipulation component graphs.
The GStreamer team has announced the release of the latest version of the GStreamer Base Plug-ins series - the 0.10.x stable version. Designed for end-users, this stable series is not API or ABI-compatible with the 0.8.x stable series, but it can be parallel-installable with this series. This module comprises a set of reference plugins, base classes for other plugins, and auxiliary libraries that are kept up-to-date together with core developments.
For element writers, this module offers various references for their development, such as device plugins like x(v)imagesink, alsa, v4lsrc, cdparanoia, containers including ogg, codecs like vorbis and theora, text tools including textoverlay, subparse, sources like audiotestsrc, videotestsrc, gnomevfssrc, network plug-ins such as tcp, typefind, audio processing tools including audioconvert, adder, audiorate, audioscale, volume, visualisation plug-ins such as libvisual, video processing tools like ffmpegcolorspace, and aggregate elements such as decodebin and playbin.
Gst-plugins-good is another module that contains a set of well-supported plug-ins under our preferred license. Then there's gst-plugins-ugly, which also contains well-supported plug-ins but might pose problems for distributors. Lastly, there's gst-plugins-bad, which is a collection that contains plug-ins that aren't up to par or can't be distributed but are still useful.
In summary, the GStreamer Base Plug-ins 0.10.x series offers a wide range of applications, codecs, and filters that users and developers can take advantage of. The module also provides a variety of references for element writers, making it a valuable tool for multimedia software development.
