Hextris is a game similar to Tetris but with hexagonal stones.
The game comes with several key features that enhance the gameplay experience. These include customizable severity levels for beginner, medium, and expert players, choosable speed at game start, a global highscore list, and choosable hexagon size. Additionally, the game is built on a Java/multiplatform implementation and comes with a GPL license.
The goal of the game is to score as high as possible. To help players achieve this, there are a few score hints to keep in mind. Firstly, moving down stones manually will score more points than waiting for them to move automatically. Secondly, playing in higher levels will score more points than playing in lower levels. If the player is comfortable in a higher level, it's better to start there.
The score for removed lines is determined by the number of lines removed simultaneously and grows quadratically. For example, filling two lines with one stone will earn twice the score of filling two lines separately. The actual score points can be found in the help display.
Overall, Hextris is an enjoyable and challenging game that is sure to provide hours of entertainment. The game only requires a Java Runtime Environment (tested with JRE6), making it accessible to a wide range of players.
