ICMPScan scans addresses for ICMP responses.
One important note is that if using the promiscuous mode, it should only be done if spoofing of source packets is enabled with the "-A" option. You can also specify the source IP address of generated packets if desired.
Target specification is also a feature of ICMPScan. You can list single hostnames or IP addresses on the command line, or you can scan a subnet of IP addresses by appending /mask to the hostname or IP address. There is also a powerful notation allowing you to specify an IP address using lists/ranges for each element.
There are various examples of how to use ICMPScan, and these include checking for individual ICMP types, such as Echo or Netmask. To use ICMPScan, you need to have libpcap and libdnet (libdumbnet under Debian) installed. The installation process is as follows:
