imapbiff software automates the task of checking for new emails in IMAP accounts. It regularly scans for new messages and signals when there's one in your inbox.
This project was written in Perl and it requires the Tk module specifically. The tool was developed to be docked in an fvwm2 button bar, as the developer couldn't find a straightforward xbiff-like application that would allow IMAP checks.
Several modules are required to use IMAPBiff, such as Perl, the Tk Perl module, the Getopt module, and the IO Perl module. But, if you want to establish an SSL connection, the IO::Socket::SSL module is also necessary.
The latest release allows users the ability to use SSL to connect with an imaps server. The tool also logs into the IMAP server only once and keeps the connection open thanks to an idea from Eric Sorenson. With this update, several bugs that caused issues with Exchange servers have been resolved thanks to Jay Fenlason. Additionally, Dave Smith identified a bug that was causing problems with spaces in usernames, which has also been fixed. Finally, the code has been cleaned up a bit.
