IMP is an Internet Messaging Program that enables access to IMAP and POP3 mail servers via the web.
IMP currently has several branches, with IMP 4.1.x being the version of the stable branch that's available now. To use this software, you'll need PHP 4.3.0 and version 3.x of the Horde framework. With an upgrade to IMP 4.1.x, you'll benefit from new features such as crypting support, flexible charset handling, and virtual folders for saved searches. You can also look forward to using a WYSIWYG editor for writing HTML messages, improved MIME message handling, and many more useful features.
Alternatively, if you prefer working with the IMP 3.2.8, you're in luck as it's the latest production version of the previous stable branch. You'll need PHP 4.1.0 and version 2.0 of the Horde framework to use it though. Upgrading to IMP 3.2.8, you'll gain access to advanced features such as searching multiple mailboxes, identities, and a hierarchical mailbox navigator. The user interface has also been redesigned to be cleaner and easier to use. IMP 3.2.8 also passes the "MIME Torture Test" that UW makes available, much like its predecessor, IMP 2.2.
All in all, IMP H3 is a great messaging program that offers many features that are typically found in desktop email clients. Additionally, its various branches provide a range of options that boast advanced features and significant improvements to the user interface.
