InfoPrism is a software tool that efficiently translates SGML source files into multiple output formats for easy document processing.
The InfoPrism package comes with ruleset scripts for the default document type Manual, while support for the Docbook DTD is still being developed. In addition to traditional SGML documents, InfoPrism can also process so-called SGML scripts. These are essentially Tcl scripts that contain additional commands to facilitate document creation. These commands include: counterparts of HTML elements (e.g. ul, pre), shortcuts for multiple SGML elements (e.g. liwul), and simulation of SGML facilities (e.g. include).
For writers who may not be familiar with traditional SGML documents, InfoPrism offers an intuitive alternative in the form of SGML scripts. Writers also benefit from the facilities of a programming language such as loops and functions, and the need to bury umlauts (ä et al) within entities is no longer necessary.
System requirements for InfoPrism include an SGML parser (tested with sgmls 1.1.91 and nsgmls 1.1.1), Tcl 8.0.3 or above, [incr Tcl] 3.0 or above, and Jultaf 0.0.9 or above configured with [incr Tcl] support.
Recent updates to InfoPrism include a new "lang" option, a "body" option for sgml2html, two new SGML script commands ("register" and "ddwex"), bug fixes for HTML ruleset and Texinfo ruleset, and improvements to line breaks and punctuation marks. There is also a log file available to display available commands.
Overall, InfoPrism is a comprehensive document processing solution with a wide range of functionalities and support for various output formats. Its ability to handle any reasonable DTD makes it a versatile option for document creation, and the additional features of SGML scripts offer an intuitive way of generating documents.
