Ibmonitor is a Linux console app that displays the total bandwidth usage across all interfaces in real-time. It provides an interactive interface for monitoring network traffic.
Unlike other similar applications, Ibmonitor dynamically shifts the unit to adjust available field width, making it easy to display total data transferred in KB/MB/GB. Also, there are several command line switches that allow users to choose whether they want to display maximum and average bandwidth.
The application responds to certain key presses while running, making it easy to dynamically change its output display format. Some of the key features of InteractiveBandwidthMonitor include:
- Showing received, transmitted, and total bandwidth of each interface
- Calculating and displaying the combined value of all interfaces
- Displaying total data transferred per interface in KB/MB/GB
- Values can be displayed in Kbits/sec(Kbps) and/or KBytes/sec(KBps)
- Showing maximum bandwidth consumed on each interface since the start of the utility
- Show average bandwidth consumption on each interface since the start of the utility
- The output with all features (max, avg, and display in Kbps and KBps) easily fits on a 80x24 console or xterm
- Can interactively change its output display format depending on the key pressed by the user
In the most recent release of Ibmonitor, the header text is now displayed immediately after starting. Overall, Ibmonitor is an excellent utility for anyone who needs to monitor bandwidth usage on a Linux system.
