The Insight Toolkit's development was the result of six principal organizations, three commercial (Kitware, GE Corporate R&D, and Insightful) and three academic (UNC Chapel Hill, University of Utah, and University of Pennsylvania). Team members also include Harvard Brigham & Women's Hospital, University of Pittsburgh, and Columbia University.
Funding for the project has come from the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health, with support from member institutions of NI. With such a high level of support and collaboration, ITK is an excellent choice for those looking for state-of-the-art segmentation and registration algorithms.
