Java Gui Builder simplifies the GUI building process by separating it from your application's code through XML.
The use of an XML file to describe GUI components provides users with the flexibility to rewrite their windows as they need. This is done without having to open up the program's innards to users. The software is designed to run on any Swing enabled J2SE platform.
Testing has been done against Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_08-b03) and Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-b01). Building the Java Gui Builder software requires J2SE 1.4 or better. It can be used with 1.3, but building on this version is not possible.
In order to use Java Gui Builder, users must have Java API for XML Processing (JAXP), JUnit, MockObjects, and Apache Ant. The software does come with some limitations. For instance, there is no forward referencing. Additionally, the XML source reads more like a script. This is because everything is done as soon as it is encountered. Changing the order of declaration will not work. For example, a text field will appear before its label in the layout's order.
