JTAG-O-MAT software offers a flexible and user-friendly interface to JTAG hardware.
This program is not designed for debugging, and it cannot be used with GDB or other debuggers. However, it can halt the CPU and retrieve register and memory contents if needed. Debugging support is not on the agenda, as JTAG-O-MAT is intended mostly for bringing up new hardware, using it in an automated test environment, or preloading boards in a production environment. But it can also be used for playing around with JTAG.
In due course, boundary scan support will be added to the to-do list, making it an even more effective tool for JTAG interfacing.
This latest release of JTAG-O-MAT has been tested using a Wiggler-compatible JTAG adapter for the parallel port and an AT91R40008-based target board named Ethernut 3. Additionally, the release includes firmware for a tiny ATmega8L-based board called Turtelizer. This board can be used as a JTAG adapter for the PC serial port, making it a versatile option for users.
Improvements in this latest release include eight times faster memory uploads and added Wiggler support for Linux and Intel Hex File. Overall, the JTAG-O-MAT program is an exciting tool that offers a wealth of features to its users, making it a great addition to any software toolkit.
