"Kfceu" is a user interface for FCE Ultra, created within 24 hours. It facilitates emulation of classic video game consoles.
It is important to note that the application is a memory hog when trying to load all 5000 ROMs for the NES and Famicom. Thus, on systems with less than 1GB of RAM, the bulk of game files will choke up the system. Users are advised to slim down their ROM folders, especially when using older systems.
Requirements for the application include Qt 3.x and FCEU, both of which must be complied and installed on your system. Once installed, users can easily access the program by entering the command, "qmake make cp kfceu /usr/local/bin."
Despite its usefulness, KFceu application does have a few known glitches. For instance, when users run the application with all 5000 games, it uses nearly 1GB of RAM. Although the developers consider it a major bug, they are working towards finding a solution to improve the software.
Additionally, users will notice that the search function and info box do not work. Likewise, the Gamepad configuration tool has few features and requires mapping tools for key binds.
In the new release, the application now allows users to scan the ROM directory recursively. This release also has the ability to build on KDE 4.1 alpha. Overall, KFceu application is an excellent front end for FCE Ultra emulator that still has a few glitches that are currently being worked out.
