KIO-POV is a KDE software that enables users to access and use Persistence of Vision Raytracer (POV-Ray) through an IO-Slave interface.
For instance, if you wish to render the scene /usr/local/share/povray-3.6/scenes/advanced/biscuit.pov that comes with POV-Ray, all you have to do is access pov:/usr/local/share/povray-3.6/scenes/advanced/biscuit.pov?render on konqueror (or KDE image editor if you want to edit images) to view the image rendered by POV-Ray. Also, its caching capabilities ensure that render results are cached so that you don't have to wait for it to finish rendering when you need to access the same render twice without modifying the scene.
KIO-POV supports not only basic rendering, which gives you a PNG image, but also provides access to HTML form information summaries about the scenes, as well as the ability to view the log file of the specific renders. If POV-Ray reports errors during the processing of scenes, the error message is also displayed. Additionally, KIO-POV is compatible with MegaPOV, and MegaPOV scenes are automatically rendered with MegaPOV if it's installed on your device.
Note that KIO-POV requires POV-Ray 3.6 or 3.6.1 to function properly. It's recommended strongly that you install the latest official version from the POV-Ray website, as both the binary and source versions will function correctly. In case of any problems while using KIO-POV or if you'd like to report bugs, you can do so through the povray.tools.general newsgroup on the POV-Ray newsserver. Also, for KDE-related issues, the KDE mailing lists are useful resources.
The latest release of KIO-POV came with several exciting features, including animation support using ffmpeg, inline rendering previews in the file information pages, and bug fixes.
