Knorpora is a customized version of Knoppix 3.3 Live CD that caters to corpus-based computational linguistics students. It is designed to enhance their learning experience.
Knorpora edition of Knoppix includes popular programs such as WordNet, the Natural Language Toolkit, and various taggers that enable users to try out interesting software that they may not be able to install on their computer. This software can be accessed through a UNIX-like operating system, giving users the opportunity to begin learning how to use the system and experiment with UNIX-command-line-based NLP tools.
Even if you already work with UNIX, Knorpora is still very useful as it provides users with the ability to collaborate with others, try out new software, and even post to the relevant list if they experience any difficulties.
If you encounter any problems with Knorpora or specific tools included within the CD, you can either contact the author or post to the relevant list. Any feedback concerning the Knorpora experience or suggestions for future releases would be greatly appreciated. The release or updates of Knorpora may take a while, but we are optimistic about its usefulness in the field of corpus-based computational linguistics.
