KSLIMP3 is a KDE-based emulator for SLIMP3. It allows users to run SLIMP3 without having to own a physical device.
KSLIMP3 is a registered trademark of Slim Devices, Inc., and is used with permission, which is a testament to its authenticity and reliability. Using KSLIMP3 is straightforward. All you need is a SlimServer running on your network. Once you start KSLIMP3, it should detect the server and be ready to play music. You can control KSLIMP3 either through SlimServer using your web browser or with the keyboard.
The keyboard keys are easy to navigate, with each button corresponding to the remote control buttons of a SLIMP3 remote control. For instance, pressing "up" on the keyboard means you're pressing the "up" button on the remote control. Similarly, pressing "p" on the keyboard corresponds to the "play" button on the remote control.
KSLIMP3 also comes packed with additional shortcut keys, and users can customize them according to their preference. The simulation of VFD display looks fantastic and can be customized in the KSLIMP3 settings menu.
To use KSLIMP3, you'll need libmad and libao libraries. Currently, it has only been tested on an i386 platform, so there may be endianness problems on other platforms. However, if you can get it working on other platforms, patches would be highly appreciated. Overall, KSLIMP3 is an excellent tool that every SLIMP3 music lover should try.
