Lazy Backup software makes backup effortless even for the laziest of people.
Initially developed as a script to make backup easier, there is now a ready-to-use Perl application available for download via sourceforge. It works from the command line and prompts users to perform certain actions like changing disks. This makes it much easier to use than the complex steps required for manual backups.
The current technologies used in Lazybackup include the disk archiver, `dar`, as the archive engine, DVD burning tools `dvd+rw-tools`, and the scripting engine, Perl. Further enhancements and improvements are planned for the future such as `parchive` which will allow users to recover lost or damaged disks. Two optional user-friendly front-ends - GTK+/ GNOME and Curses are also being considered.
Additionally, the developers plan to introduce a C++ library in order to streamline the application even further. The goal of Lazybackup is to become the go-to backup tool for the Gnome desktop, especially when GNU/Linux becomes more mainstream to non-technical individuals. The software also aims to appeal to technical admins with its advanced scriptability and full functionality through the command line and library interfaces.
